Jack Edwards

d. April 4, 2016

We are sad to announce the passing of Jack (John) Earl Edwards of Harvie Heights on April 4, 2016. Jack was born to the late Stephen Earl and Caroline (Jordan) Edwards, June 19, 1927 in Edmonton, Alberta. His sister Shirley, sister-in-law Jane Edwards and niece Caroline Edwards predeceased him. He is survived by his brother Glen Edwards and his nephews and niece, Donald (Margot) Edwards, Pamela (Peter) Scott and Richard (Stephanie) Edwards, as well as, grandnieces and a grandnephew Palmer, Kendall, Claire, Elle and Jack.

In the 1940's, during high school, Jack, along with his brother Glen and their father built a fishing boat and trailer, which they used for weekend outings on the Spray Lakes. Jack was an avid outdoorsman with many hunting trips in the Yukon, Northern B.C., Ghost River and Kananaskis ranges. His nephews and niece loved hearing how he was awoken one night sleeping under the stars in the mountains by a black bear standing on his chest!

Jack's early years as a mechanic were spent with Calgary Motor Products. In 1966, five years after acquiring his mountain home in Harvie Heights, he decided to make it his permanent residence. He then worked with Brewster's Transport and the Kananaskis Golf Course until his retirement.

Jack was a life long bachelor, but was known to both family and friends as "Uncle Jack". He taught many of us how to use a chainsaw, chop wood, shingle a roof, build a rundle rock path, dig a septic field and drive a snowmobile. Jack always enjoyed visits with friends, tending to his alpine garden and walking his dogs. Uncle Jack will be missed by his family especially all the hikes, "work projects" and weekends they spent together.

Jack's family would especially like to thank Leslie, Peter and Lauren Mikols for all their help and always being there for Uncle Jack.

A celebration of life was held on Sunday, May 15 at the Harvie Heights Community Centre. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations will be greatly received by the Bow Valley SPCA,

123 Bow Meadows Crescent, Canmore AB, T1W 2N8.

Services provided by Russ Reynolds and Bow River Funeral Service.
