Iris Southwood, beloved wife of the late Ace Southwood, passed away at the Canmore Hospital on November 15, 2010 following a brief illness.
Iris was also predeceased by her parents, Reg and Caroline Wilson and her brother Bert Wilson. She leaves to mourn her passing, her devoted daughter Lori, sons Reg (Edie) and Terry (Catherine), grand-daughters Jane (Chris) Lizotte and Karen (Mike) Cloutier, their mother Joy, and four great-grandchildren, as well as her sister-in-law Anne Wilson and niece Connie (Bryan) McLaughlin.
Iris was born in Canmore and, except for a brief time when her parents returned to Wales, lived her entire life in Canmore. As a young mother, she ran her own hairdressing business, and later on, she and Ace ran the Grizzly B'ar at Deadman's Flats. She was an accomplished seamstress and a fabulous cook. Her Welsh cakes were legendary.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michalyshyn and the staff at the Canmore Hospital for their loving care.
A celebration of Iris's life was held on Friday, November 26, 2010 at the Ralph Connor Memorial United Church on Main Street in Canmore.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes to the Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation (Canmore Hospital), 1100 Hospital Place, Canmore, AB, T1W 1N2 or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
