Helen Besner

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Besner (nee Borosiuk) at the age of 93 years. Helen passed away peacefully at the Golden Eagle View long-term care facility in Canmore on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 with her daughter Marilyn by her side.

Helen was born in Lachine, Quebec on August 11, 1918 to Nickolay (Nicholas) Borosiuk and Maria Passerby. She leaves behind her two children, Marilyn (Gawn Croll) of Canmore and George (Louise Byrne) of Ottawa. Helen was a proud and grateful grandmother to her seven grandchildren: Su (Wayne Murdoch) of Edmonton, Lynda (Stewart Fernie) of Banff, Penny (Patrick Lawless) of Banff, Greg (Julie Lavertue) of Aylmer, Heather (Ben Fox) of London, England, Ann (Steve Begg) of Ottawa and David Besner of Ottawa. She was Baba Helen to nine great grandchildren: Morgan and Michael Fernie, Elizabeth and Duncan Murdoch, Kate and Zoë Lawless, Jacob and James Croll, and Stella Fox.

Helen is also survived by her sisters Anne McElligott and Jennie Harvey both of Brampton. Helen was predeceased by her husband George

(June 5, 1976) and her sister Rachel (Rose) and brothers

William and Stephen.

A funeral service for family and friends was held at the Ralph Connor Memorial Memorial United Church in Canmore on Wednesday, September 28, 2011.

Helen was laid to rest at the Bukowinian St. John Orthodox Cemetery in Lachine, Quebec on October 5, 2011.
