Hazel Olauson

Hazel was raised on her family's farm in Old Barns, Nova Scotia the 13th child in a family of 14. Her parents, Amos John Yuill and Ellen Elizabeth (Archibald) were descendents of original Scottish immigrants who settled in the fertile Cobequid Bay area in the mid 1700's.

Hazel was married on her 25th birthday to Gordon C. Olauson, a young Air Force Flight Lieutenant just home from duty in England during World War II. During their marriage, Hazel supported Gordon in his career as a NORAD liaison officer with the Ministry of Transport. They relocated frequently in Canada and the US with Gordon's work. Throughout all the moves, Mom made a stable and supportive home for us.

Upon their retirement to Kelowna they enjoyed gardening at their home and golfing as members of the Kelowna Golf and Country Club.

After 62 years of marriage, Gordon passed away in August, 2008.

This past year Hazel was blessed to call Golden Eagle View in Canmore, Alberta her home. The staff enjoyed Hazel's feisty attitude and sense of humor. Their kind words and tender care gave us a sense of peace, in these past weeks of Hazel's life. We are truly thankful for these wonderful people and her compassionate physician Dr. Du Plessis.

Hazel leaves her son, Gary, his wife Penny, grandsons Colin, Emery, and Evan and great grandson Rilee of Canmore, AB., daughter Marlene Hann, her husband Steve Hann, grandson and family David and Kathy Hann and great grandson Skyler Hann of SW Florida, her younger sister Audrey Carter of Brookfield, Nova Scotia and many nieces, nephews and friends across Canada and the United States.
