Harold Melvin Brooks, beloved husband of Maxine, passed away peacefully at the Canmore Hospital on July 20, 2011 at the age of 89 years.
Harold was born April 13, 1922 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, eldest son of Benjamin and Goldie Brooks. He was raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan where he graduated high school in 1939 at the age of 17. He worked his way through university, attending University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon where he received his certificate in education in 1946 and Bachelor of Pharmacy in 1952.
While he was in Saskatoon, he met the love of his life, Maxine Swartout. Harold and Maxine married in 1949 and moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta in 1952 where they raised a family. Harold was a pharmacist in Medicine Hat for many years and was also involved with numerous community service groups. In 1978, Harold and Maxine moved to Canmore where they have resided since. Harold also worked several years as a pharmacist at the Canmore Hospital. He enjoyed bridge, golf, playing saxophone and participated in activities with the Senior Centre. Harold and Maxine enjoyed many years as "snowbirds" in Mesa, Arizona.
Harold was predeceased by; his parent's, his brother Sherry, brother in law Roy and nephew Jay. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Maxine, children Leah, Karen (Bill), Rod (Chris), and his grandchildren; Jennifer, Aquila, Orion, Altair and Tara as well as his sister Rivera, sister in laws; Sherril, Lois (Don), Blanche (Dave) and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family would like to thank Dr. J. Michalyshyn, Kathleen O'Connor (home care) and all the staff who cared for him the past few months at Canmore Hospital.
A graveside service was held for family and friends at Canmore Cemetery on July 24, 2011.
