Gretchen Luthy

Gretchen Louise Luthy (nee Beach) passed away at the Golden Eagle View Long Term Care Facility, in Canmore, Alberta, on

February 26, 2013 at the age of 97 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband of sixty years, Wallace on May 17, 1996. She is survived by her daughter Elaine of New York City, her son Gary (Jean) of Canmore, Alberta, her two granddaughters, Genevieve and Sarah both of Calgary, and her niece Geraldine Beach of Lowell, Ohio. She was predeceased by her brother, Gerald Beach, and her nephew Joe Beach, both of Ohio, and by her son-in-law, James Brennan of New York City.

Gretchen was a member of a pioneer Ohio family and was born in Marietta on May 24, 1915. After graduation from Bliss College in Columbus, Ohio, she was employed by the Retail Merchants Credit Bureau and later by the Ohio Fuel Gas Company of Athens, Ohio where she met her husband-to-be. After her marriage in 1936, she lived in Cleveland, Ohio and Ashland, Kentucky until moving to Calgary with her family in 1955. She was a member of the Calgary Golf and Country Club, the Calgary Petroleum Club and the Glencoe Club. She was a Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League. She was member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church and had served as president of its Chancel Guild.

Gretchen moved to Golden Eagle View in Canmore in 2009 where she spent the remainder of her days being lovingly cared for by the wonderful staff and her doctor Catherine Hinds.

A family memorial service will be held at a future date.
