Grace Widgill

d. May 22, 2015

The Family of Grace Effie Widgill, wish to announce her gentle and peaceful passing two months before her 94th Birthday.

Grace was born in Medicine Hat, AB. and was the last surviving child of the five children born to Effie and Bernard Powlesland.

Life was not always easy for Grace, but she always accepted life's challenges with grace and dignity and a never give up attitude. She raised three children on her own, went on to be a very successful business women and business owner. She worked for several decades, as the general manager of Shipley Photo Service, in Calgary, then in 1979 purchased Banff Camera where she worked with many family and friends until an untimely stroke brought that to an end. This did not stop her; she recovered as best she could, continuing to pursue her life passion for needlework (with her left hand) and her acute interest in the weather (she should have been a meteorologist).

Grace is survived by her daughters Reita Widgill. Marilyn Najm, and her son Lynn Widgill (Marian). She is also survived by seven Grandchildren, eleven Great Grandchildren and one Great Great Grandchild.

This is a legacy to be sure !!

Her last years were spent in Abbyfield House in Banff and St Martha's long term care in the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital. Enough cannot be said about the excellent care she received. We, the family, send our sincere thanks to Joe Mohr at Abbyfield House and Dr. L. Marriott and the staff of St Martha's, you are all Angels in disguise.

A celebration of life for Grace was held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at the Banff Royal Canadian Legion. We invite everyone whose lives she touched to join us in celebrating her memory. Bring your stories of her and we will all reminisce together. See you there.

Friends wishing to remember Grace may make a donation, in her memory, to the Col. Moore Branch # 26, Royal Canadian Legion,

92 Banff Avenue in Banff, or to St. Martha's Place memorial fund,

in care of the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital, in lieu of flowers.

The Flag at the Banff Legion has been lowered in her honour.

Grace was a star in the eyes of all that met her.

She will be sadly missed.
