Glen Baillie

d. November 11, 2020

On Wednesday, November 11, 2020, just before 11:00 am,

in Winnipeg, Glen Baillie of Canmore / Banff peacefully passed

away in his sleep. He was 88.

Glen is predeceased by his dearly beloved granddaughter Meagan (2009), love of his life Marjorie (2015), son Bob (2015), and son

Blue (2020).

Glen is survived by his twin sons, Norm Baillie (Mark) and Larry Baillie; his many grandchildren: Jared Baillie (Christina), Jason Baillie (Caitlyn), Shauna Gatto (Tyler), Kevin Baillie (Megan), Vanessa Baillie, Emily Baillie (Garret), and Ross Baillie. Glen had many great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Sunny, Kai, Eric, Alex, Mary, Colton, and Bo.

His love of family was most evident in his expression when he saw one of his great-grandchildren. He always believed that his greatest contribution was the ones he left behind.

His soulmate and partner for life was introduced to him in the way of a passenger on a train while he was working with Canadian Pacific Rail, Glen and Marjorie were married in 1954, and started a family in Scarborough, Ontario resulting in four spirited boys.

Glen started off working for CP Rail, then in 1953 went on to a 27-year career with the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force as a Constable and Detective Sergeant. As a young father and adult, Glen and Marjorie were dedicated Scout Leaders, spending many weekends and holidays in the outdoors.

Glen's love of the outdoors continued when he and Marjorie followed Blue and Bob by moving west to Banff in 1979. With the move to Banff, Glen, Marjorie, Blue, and Bob opened their family business, the Spoke & Edge. Skiing and biking were lifelong passions for Glen and Marj and brought with it a trip to the south of France on a bicycle made for two, many ski trips, and most importantly a community of lifelong friendships made through the Spoke n' Edge.

In retirement, Glen did not slow down. His involvement in the

community was seen as he became heavily involved with the Rotary clubs of both Banff and Canmore. Glen became the Rotary District Governor (District 5360) from 1996-1997, one of the proudest accomplishments. Glen was a lifelong volunteer in the valley and

served as a dedicated member of the Bow Valley Credit Union

Board of Directors for many years.

Glen loved sports. As an adult he golfed, skied, biked, and played squash. He had numerous friends whom he would enjoy these activities with, however, his favourite companions were his grandchildren. Glen loved to fill his days spending time with his grandchildren, taking them on trips across North America in the motorhome, or attending sports events all over Western Canada. Glen spent countless days skiing

with his grandkids, serving as a larger than life ski buddy and grandpa, with an unmistakable ice frosted, Lanny McDonald mustache.

Glen spent hours in his shed restringing racquets for many racquet sport enthusiasts in the valley. But the best bet to find Glen and Marjorie was to visit the Canmore Golf and Curling Club. This was a special place for him as he loved the game nearly as much as the friendships and community that came with the membership. They were there nearly every day, in the clubhouse or walking up and down the fairways.

Glen and Marjorie's church was Sunday night dinners whether on Painted Post in Scarborough, Fox Street in Banff or Restwell in Canmore. Any and all were invited, and often, visiting friends and family would schedule their vacations around attending Sunday night dinners. His favourites were when his boys were visiting from out of town.

Glen and Marj also delighted in receiving postcards all the way from Australia from Norm and Mark. This gesture warmed their memories of their son and son-in-law, while reminding them of their own travel around the world.

Glen was a loyal Calgary Stampeders fan and him and Marjorie enjoyed attending home games for many years as season ticket holders. After moving to Winnipeg in 2018, he enjoyed attending Bombers tailgate parties and games in his Stampeders gear with Larry and Kevin.

The family would like to thank the hard-working medical professionals

at the Grace Hospital and the front-line staff at the Maples Personal Care Home.

Glen was dedicated to volunteering and making an impact in the community. His legacy will live on through others who were inspired

by his words and actions.

The lasting picture of Glen, by his Bow Valley friends and family, is of Glen and Marjorie hand in hand walking in town. It is with comfort that we know Glen has taken Marj's hand once again, in Heaven, with his sons Blue and Bob, and his granddaughter Meagan close by.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in our Glen's name to the Canmore Rotary Club, designated to the Glen and Marjorie Baillie Memorial Benefit Fund at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/56113.

With the Covid-19 restrictions now in place, it is the hope of the family that we can remember Glen in the coming year.
