Gerald David "Gerry" Shellian passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the age of 67 years. He will be dearly missed by his daughter Kerrie Shellian (Adam VanGerpen) of Valencia, California and his two adoring grandchildren Noah VanGerpen and Sadie VanGerpen.
Gerry is survived by his five brothers and sisters, Rich Shellian (Barb), Larry Shellian, Ron Shellian (Denise), all of Canmore; Betty Kirby of Kelowna, BC and Shirley Matheson of Grand Prairie, AB. He is also survived by his best friend Jim Erickson (Les) of Calgary; three aunts Jennie Sweet of Calgary, Lena Shellian and Jenny Shellian, both of Canmore; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Gerry was predeceased by his parents Sophie (nee Sweet) and Ludwig Shellian and by his nephew Reid Shellian.
Gerry was born and raised in Canmore. He attended SAIT and was then employed as an Electrical Technician with Calgary Power
(now Trans-Alta). Gerry was a kind, loving, warm-hearted man with a positive attitude, a great sense of humour and a smile that would light up a room. He always loved hockey, painting, woodworking, photography and anything that would take him outdoors. In his later years, he was able to more fully enjoy these passions. More than anything, Gerry loved spending time with those he loved.
A Celebration of Life for Gerry was held at St. Michael's Anglican Church on Friday, February 28, 2014. Interment followed in the Canmore Cemetery.
