George passed away in the Canmore Hospital after a short but determined battle against cancer.
A gentle and caring man, loved by many, he is survived by his two daughters, Roxanna (Doug Bell) and Lillian (Graham Hook); the four Hook grandsons, Shaun (Natalie) - parents of his great granddaughter, Rachel; Trevor (Deserae), Gregory (Sarah) and Brent (Lindsey); his brother, Harry (Rosalette); sister, Mary (Don Althen); sister-in-law, Monica; many nieces and nephews; and the Maschio family.
All of us loved to hear his stories. He was predeceased by his wife Lillian; daughter Melanie; brothers Michael and Nick and his companion, Jean Maschio.
George was born in Hairy Hill, Alberta, but spent most of his life in the Banff /Canmore area. He saw front-line action in WWII in France & Holland and had at least four careers before retiring in 1988 as the Superintendent of the Luxton Museum in Banff. An avid fisherman, after retirement, he was able to travel widely in Canada & abroad from his home in Banff, visiting friends & relatives. He was a member of the Banff Indian Days Committee, Kiwanis Club, The Royal Canadian Legion, Masonic Lodge and Shriners.
Many thanks to the wonderful care provided by Dr. J. Michalyshyn and the hospital nurses and staff. Also, over the past challenging month, we appreciate the help & care and visits of George's special friends.
At his request there will be a celebration of George's life starting at
1:00 PM on Monday, June 23, 2014 at the Banff Park Lodge.
In lieu of flowers, George requested donations be given to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Lillian Mandryk Scholarship Fund (Banff Mineral Springs Hospital) or a charity of your choice.
