Gary Von Wyl

Gerhard (Gary) von Wyl died peacefully in Canmore, Alberta.

He was born in Sarnen, Switzerland, on November 17, 1960, and found a passion for music as a boy chorister and later as a yodeller in the Yodel Club Heimattreu in Calgary. Gary loved food and trained as a chef in Switzerland before emigrating to Canada to work in Banff. He left cooking to become a professional driver and drove for Banff Transportation Group for 22 years, becoming a recognized friendly face for local and international clients.

His passion for food continued all his life and he expressed his love for friends and family by creating exquisite meals.

Gary was eternally positive, calm and kind. He is survived by his wife Clara Guerrero, his sister Ruth and brothers Beat and Markus, and their families. The family is deeply grateful to a wide circle of friends, medical doctors, the staff of Canmore General Hospital, Home Care and Palliative Care Society of the Bow Valley for Gary's care in his last months.

A Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, September 14 at The Shrine Church of Our Lady of the Rockies (2 Silvertip Trail, Canmore) and was followed by a Celebration of Life. If friends wish to donate in honour of Gary, please choose the Bow Valley Food Bank.
