Garry Kirwan

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Garry Thomas Kirwan who passed away unexpectedly on June 29, 2019 at his home in Canmore, AB.

Garry met his beloved wife of 56 years Jenny, (nee Foulds) at his second posting in Banff AB, where they married and had two children. Garry is survived by his wife Jenny, his son Troy and wife Sophie (nee Fortin), his daughter Debbie and husband Greg Burt.

He also leaves behind three precious grandchildren, Kelly, Kyle and Cassidy, his brother Dennis and wife Mary Kirwan, his brother Bernard and wife Zella Kirwan, his sister in law Alice Kirwan and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Jack, Darcy and Arnold.

Garry was born July 27, 1939 and raised in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. In his younger years he excelled in track and field and was an avid hockey player. Garry's calling to law enforcement drew him to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at the young age of 19. He had an illustrious career that took he and his family throughout Alberta over his 35 years of service with the force.

His friendly, easy going attitude combined with his involvement in the communities he served, left a lasting impression and friendships that still remain today. He retired with the rank of Staff Sergeant and Commander of the Banff detachment.

Garry will be remembered by all that knew him as an all around good guy that was focused on his family. He was passionate about sports, fishing, camping, telling bad jokes that made people laugh, enjoying sunsets and a cerveza on the beach in Mexico and watching his beloved Edmonton Oilers on hockey night in Canada.

A celebration of life for Garry Kirwan was held on Saturday,

July 20 in the Canmore Seniors Centre.
