We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Elizabeth (Liza) Loomis (nee Sharp) on December 1, 2015 at the age of 97 years.
Liza was born in Kingston, Jamaica to Thomas Hicks Sharp and Mary Davy (Thurtell). She moved to Montreal at age 2 and lived there and in St. Sauveur, in her beloved Quebec for 90 years. She decided to come to Canmore in June 2010.
Liza was pre-deceased by her loving husband James (Jimmy) Gordon Mann Loomis, her sister Frances Taggart (Kay) and her brother Thomas Hicks Sharp. She is survived by her children Leslie, Tom (Joan) and Meredith Westgate (Ward). She was Gammy to her grandchildren Jamie Loomis, Jennifer Tyerman (Jacob) and Susan Westgate (Michael Johnson); and Gigi to her great grandchildren Asher, Britain and Bennett Tyerman. Liza is survived by many nieces and nephews and was Aunt Wibby to her dear niece, Sue Ancrum (Charlie).
One always found a book or ten around her as she loved to read. She volunteered at the library to get first chance at reading the books that came in. In Quebec, she was an avid bridge player (including duplicate) and enjoyed playing bi-weekly with her dear friends in the "Bridge Club". She skied, golfed and volunteered with the Junior League, ACW and "Meals on Wheels".
Liza was fiercely independent and was living on her own until she developed a case of shingles in July 2014. She was admitted to the hospital in September and spent her last 9 months in the Golden Eagle View residence. She liked the pet visits at Golden Eagle View!
Liza also loved having her grand-dog Daisy come to visit and would always ask where Daisy was if she didn't come every time!
The family wants to thank all the staff, caregivers and volunteers who provided such wonderful care for Mum while she was there.
A memorial service was held at St. Michael's Anglican church
on Friday, December 11, 2015. Her favourite foods - chocolate and anything with bacon were served!
A burial service in Montreal will take place later in the Spring.
Services provided by Russ Reynolds and Bow River Funeral Service.
