Elaine Gunn

d. February 14, 2015

Elaine died peacefully with her family around her at the Canmore Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer. She fought endlessly to beat this overwhelming disease for a year.

Elaine lived in Scotland, she was brought up in Lenzie, a village northeast of Glasgow, with her two younger brothers, Craig and Gregor. She graduated from Glasgow University in 1993 with a BA in Nursing Studies.

She took up a nursing post in Nottingham City Hospital where she met James. They married on the 1st of September 2001 at Culcreuch Castle in Fintry, Scotland. Elaine and James decided to take their honeymoon in Canada and America. They had completed the first part of their honeymoon in Canada and were just about to board a plane for America when 9:11 took place. The air space was closed and they remained in Canada and discovered Canmore. They immediately fell in love with this town. They decided they would return. Elaine gained a nursing post in Calgary in 2004 and they moved full of excitement and hope for the future.

Her true desire was to live in her beloved Canmore. She was able to realize this dream in October 2005 when she gained a post at the Canmore Hospital. They moved to Canmore and enjoyed the whole experience of biking, hiking and skiing. Elaine's first love in sport was running; she enjoyed running the beautiful trails around her.

Her nursing career was a dream, she loved and respected all her nursing colleagues and was loved in return by them.

The ultimate dream of her life was completed by the birth of her two wonderful children, Heather in 2006 followed by Finlay in 2008.

Her children were her life, she was a devoted mother and shone

with pride as they grew.

James and Elaine had many exciting times as a perfect family enjoying the beauty of this wonderful valley. They enjoyed the support and love of a wonderful community who have looked after her, James, Heather and Finlay over the past year. She knew how fortunate she was in being part of this place, the people being as beautiful as the scenery around.

The Memorial service for Elaine was held on Saturday,

February 14, 2015 in St. Michael's Anglican Church in Canmore, followed by a reception at the Silvertip Resort for family and close friends who shared their stories of Elaine.

Flowers gratefully declined. Friends wishing to remember Elaine are encouraged to make a donation to a trust fund that has been established for future sports endeavors for her children.
