Eileen Salomon

Eileen Mary Salomon (nee Murray), beloved mother of Alicia Knedlik, Spencer Murray, Daniel J. Salomon, Marina Pedersen, Andrea Salomon, Ana Maria (Anita) Chung, Peter Salomon and Carlos Christian Salomon, died at the Canmore General Hospital on January 11, 2011 at the age of 96 years.

Our Mom, Eileen, was born in Montreal, Quebec on April 19, 1914 to Alice Marguerite Murray (nee Cleary) and Daniel Joseph Murray and lost both her parents at a very young age. When the Spanish flu of 1919 took their mother, the 7 siblings were divided up among the relatives. Eileen and her younger sister Theresa were raised in the country by their grandparents.

Eileen cared for newborns and chronic patients but her most important and cherished role in life was raising her 8 children and even at the age of 96 would ask "Are all the children OK?"

She married the love of her life in 1945, Carlos Salomon, who was a Mechanical Engineer and a caring father. They were devoted to each other throughout their marriage and moved together to Canmore in 1986. Mom cared for Dad through the difficult last years when he suffered from Parkinson's disease and until his death in 1988.

During her 18 months at Golden Eagle View, time and again Mom expressed her appreciation for the care she received. We witnessed firsthand the compassion extended to Mom and the expertise in caring for her needs. We enjoyed the special and humour filled interaction each staff member shared with Mom in spite of a heavy work schedule.

Thank you also to the many volunteers who extended love in so many ways and to the staff of Community Care and the Bow River Lodge who all cared for and loved Mom in their own special way. We would also like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. John Michalyshyn for his care and compassion.

Our Mom is already deeply missed and is survived by her 8 children, 13 grandchildren, 2 great granddaughters and countless nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada, USA, Peru and Spain.

A public visitation was held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Bow River Funeral Service Chapel (1508 Railway Ave.) in Canmore .

A Funeral Service was held Saturday, January 29, 2011 at St. Michael's Anglican Church, 709 - 7 St., Canmore, AB.

Interment then followed in the Canmore Cemetery with her beloved Carlos. Following interment, a Celebration of Life was held back at the Anglican Church hall.
