Edna Rose Horyn of Banff passed away at the age of 77 years , following being diagnosed with cancer a few months prior. Born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan to Marie and Fred Horn, Edna was raised on the family farm and attended school in Bjorkdale, Saskatchewan. Edna married and soon thereafter left for a life in Alberta. After a few years in Fort McMurray, she and her husband settled in Innisfree, AB in 1974 where they purchased a service station and raised their four children. In addition to running the business, Edna was the custodian at the Innisfree School for 25 years.
Over the years, Edna developed numerous close friends and loved attending weddings, social gatherings, coffee at the local café and cheering on her kids while they played sports. In 2009 Edna retired and moved to Banff, the home of two of her children, made new friends and was an active member of the community and senior's centre.
Edna was never quick to judge and had a kind heart. She smiled easily, had a great sense of humour, enjoyed life, and recognized and appreciated the goodness of friends, family and her natural surroundings. Edna had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed travelling, meeting new people and seeing new places.
Edna was loved dearly by her children and will be missed immensely:
Shannon Kassian (Roy) of Two Hills, Alberta with their children Trevor (Renee); Sheldon (Melanie); Kyle (Kaitlyn) Laurie Harvey (Lynn) of Banff, with their children Natasha and Alexander. Clint Horyn (Michelle) of Cold Lake, Alberta with daughter Sydney. Raymond Horyn (Kori) of Banff, Alberta with children Emily and Robson. She also has six great grandchildren (Keegan, Payton, Mason, Beau, Karenza, Amelia).
Edna is also survived by her three brothers; Raymond Horn (Pat), Norman Horn (Rose) and Paul Horn (Sandra) and her sister Alice Murray (Albert).
Not one to complain or ask for much, Edna endured significant health challenges throughout her life with courage and dignity which was an inspiration for those who knew and loved her. Edna's children would like to thank the wonderful care team at the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital, from those who cleaned her room to the kitchen staff, nurses and doctors, for all of their compassion and commitment to make her time there as comfortable as possible.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital or to the Canadian Cancer Society. A celebration of life will take place with family this summer at one of her favourite places, Lac Des Isle, Saskatchewan.
