Eddie Ram, a local Banff-legacy taken too soon. Beloved husband and father passed away very peacefully in the Peter Lougheed Hospital
in Calgary Sunday, December 23, 2018 at 2:58pm after a courageous
2 year battle with cancer.
Eduardus Adrianus Ram was born in Utrecht, Holland Jan. 6, 1952.
He moved to Canada with his parents, Addie & Jenny when he was just 7 years old and attended Banff Elementary & High School. Growing up in the mountains Eddie realized his passion for playing on the local hockey team, but also the soccer, basketball and baseball teams to name a few – he realized his home was in Banff. Eddie met the love
of his life, Colleen Gompf, and married her in 1982. Eddie worked for CP Rail and then Via Rail for 23 years as a Red Cap, Station Agent, then Station Master until they closed the Passenger Service to Banff. He then owned / operated a snack bar at the Brewster Bus Station called the Whistle Stop and finished his working years at Snowtips-Bactrax renting Ski & Bike equipment.
Colleen and Eddie realized they were still missing one thing in life
– a child, and so in 1994 they adopted Kaylee, their only daughter.
Eddie is survived by his wife Colleen, daughter Kaylee, aunt Rykje (Bob) her daughter Andrea (Ryan) their sons Malcolm & Fletcher, cousins Marc, Philip, Alain, Natalie, & Vivanne in Montreal, Desiree in Holland, & Christa (Brian) her daughters Evelyn & Margaret in Banff, and many many more wonderful friends! Eddie was predeceased by his mother Jenny and father Addie.
Eddie will be remembered for his booming laugh and contagious sense of humour, his kindness and generosity to anyone whose path crossed his, for always living life to the fullest and being a reliable friend and family man. He will be missed by many, his legacy in Banff will live on within each person who he impacted across the globe and would wish for people to continue to celebrate life and not dwell on his passing.
A Celebration of Life was held at the Banff Royal Canadian Legion on Sunday, January 6, 2019. This would have been his 67th birthday – please come and joins us and share with us your memories! To honor Eddie's love of sports, the family requested everyone to please wear his favourite sports teams jerseys: Montreal Canadians, BC Lions, NY Yankees or NY Giants.
In lieu of flowers you can send a donation to any of the following; the Canadian Cancer Society, Tom Baker Cancer Center located in Calgary or the Canmore Cancer Treatment Center in the Canmore Hospital.
All of which the family would like to thank for their immeasurable support and guidance through his battle.
