Denis passed away in the early morning on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the age of 69, at home as he wished, surrounded by the love and presence of his two daughters, Isabelle and Annie.
Denis was diagnosed with ALS in April 2012. As the disease progressed, he dealt with the changes step by step with realism and great courage while being supported by amazing friends and family members.
Denis was predeceased by his lovely gal Sally, his wife and soulmate of 32 years. Through the past year, he was supported and surrounded by his 2 children Isabelle (Hugo) & Annie (Benoit), Sally's children Kathy (Mark), Peter (Cassia) & Mark (Patience), as well as by his six grandsons and Denis' siblings Huguette, Andrée & Gilles (Lise).
Denis grew up in a small town, St-Charles-sur-Richelieu, in Quebec.
He graduated from Montreal University in 1968 and practiced as a pharmacist, in Montreal, until June 1990.
After a few trips to the Rockies, he and Sally got the call for the Wild, Wild West. In 1990, they chose Canmore to put down roots, enjoy life to the fullest and live their dream. Denis has always loved the outdoors. He was in his element while hiking, canoeing, camping or skiing.
Devoted to helping others, Denis will be remembered for all the volunteer work he has done in the community. For his dedication, Denis received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Canmore Mayor's Award for Adult Volunteer Excellence.
The family wishes to extend a grateful thank you to Dr. Andy Reed, the Canmore Community Care / Home Care and to Marguerite Duncan and the caring team who supported Denis to remain at home through his last days. This was also made possible because of the wonderful support and help of many great friends.
On Saturday April 26, 2014, there was a farewell for family and friends at the Canmore Cemetery Columbarium followed by a Community gathering at the Canmore Legion for a Celebration of Life to remember Denis.
