David Robinson

d. November 27, 2014

David Frederick Robinson was born in Gillingham, England and passed away peacefully in Canmore, Alberta. David is survived by his loving wife Frances of Canmore, and by a son and daughter, seven grand-children and many great-grandchildren, all of whom live in England.

In 1937, at the age of 15, David joined the Royal Navy as an Artificer apprentice. After 25 years of service he left the navy with the rank of Chief Engine Room Artificer. He then spent a couple of years in the Merchant Navy and with an insurance company based in London, England before moving to Bermuda and joining a team of engineers at the Carlton Beach Hotel where they ran the machinery that turned sea water into drinkable water. It was here that he met and married his wife Frances. In September of 1969 they moved to Canada to begin a new adventure.

David always worked in the insurance industry, either inspecting or underwriting machinery and equipment, in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario, and part of his responsibility was inspections at the Canmore Mines before they closed. In the trade he was known as "the boiler man". They moved to Canmore in 1990 to fully retire and he became active in the community with the Canmore Seniors Association, the Canmore Library and later, when he took up painting, with the

Canmore Art Guild.

A gathering of friends and family to celebrate David's life was held on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at the Three Sister's Branch,

Royal Canadian Legion in Canmore.
