David Owen

d. September 20, 2017

David Owen, writer, poet, painter, and football coach, rested his pen and whistle on September 20, 2017, surrounded by his three surviving children, and grandchildren.

David coached junior/senior semi-pro, and university football teams and everything below for over 7 decades – from the 50's to 2010 – with the assistance and support of Annette, his wife of 65 years.

David has left an indelible mark on many communities and individuals and his accomplishments are too numerous to mention. Although Canmore was his home for the past 26 years, he will also be remembered with great fondness by friends he made in Australia,

South Africa, England, Pittsburgh, and all stops between

Scarborough, Ont., and Vancouver B.C. through his contributions to athletics, politics, education, and love of hiking and wildlife observation.

His input will be missed by the many publications he saw worthy of his contributions, and by many that did not. He submitted essays, editorials, art, and poetry, that were published by some of Canada's most notable newspapers and periodicals. His devoted followers know of the great delight he took in using pseudonyms and anagrams as his signature, his most well- known favourite being Don Quixote.

He would ask that we tilt at future windmills with integrity, compassion, respect, responsibility, and resourcefulness. These qualities and values were not merely concepts to David, but how he conducted his life.

He is now on a new quest to be reunited with his beloved wife Annette and cherished daughter Bronwyn.

At his request, a Norse funeral was held by the family in lieu of a traditional funeral or memorial.

Services provided by Russ Reynolds and Bow River Funeral Service.
