Canmore lost one of its favourite characters on March 1, 2016.
John Andrew Craig Lewis, (Craig to all his friends) passed away
at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary.
Craig, the son of Vic and Bette Lewis, was born in the old Canmore Hospital on January 6, 1957. After finishing high school, he went on to study music at the University of Calgary. He always had an entrepreneurial spirit, which lead him to establish Sigma Computers Systems Inc., serving clients all over the Bow Valley for over 20 years. Recently he went to work in Nigeria with his brother, Victor.
It was an experience of a lifetime for him. He relished in all his experiences, learning new culture, taking pictures and sharing the stories with everyone around him. The sheer amount of people that said they loved him after he left was a testament to this. He was given many names in Nigeria by the people who knew and worked with him. Chief, and African translations for Big boss, man that breaks steel and many others. He was highly respected there. He could not stop helping people. Many times villagers would come to the rig to thank him for the help he gave through the community workers around the rig location.
Music was his other life passion, following in his father's footsteps.
Even though percussion was his trademark he was a multi-talented musician who played a variety of instruments in many bands over the years. His first band was, "Page", other bands included, "Sulley's Garage", "Whiskey Creek", and most recently, "Moldy Fig Fusion" and "Valley Winds Big Band".
Family and building memories were everything to Craig. He was blessed with four children, Elizabeth, Brock and Bailey with his first wife, Barb Southee; and Danny with his second wife, Shawn Davidson. His passing has left to morn his brothers, Ron (Leslie), Earl (Anne), Victor, (Norm) and sister Andrena (Greg). He will also be dearly missed by his best friend and partner Pam and her family along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He touched many lives from the Bow Valley all the way to Africa. People will truly miss him, his infectious laugh and extra-long bear hugs.
Friends and family were invited to a celebration of Craig's life on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the Canmore Senior's Centre,
