Corrie Thomas

Cornelia "Corrie" Adriana Thomas (nee Overgaauw) was born on January 3, 1914 in Voarschoten, Holland. She came from a family of eight siblings, four boys and four girls. She did her schooling in Holland. Before and during the war she worked as a Dental Hygienist. At the end of the war she met John Thomas who was a Canadian soldier and became a war bride on December 26, 1945. Together they stayed in the Netherlands where John had a job taking care of the Canadian War Graves. On April 5, 1947 their son Innocent John was born. In May 1950 the family moved to Aylesbury, Saskatchewan and were shocked to arrive to a foot of snow. With the aid of the Veteran's Association, John and Corrie bought a farm outside of Chamberlain, Sask. and farmed for 13 years. In 1963 the family moved to Canmore because Corrie's sister Meika and her husband Jack Blok had immigrated here from Holland.

John got a job at Parks Canada as a Warden. After 28 years of marriage her beloved John passed away in May of 1973 at the young age of 52 years. Corrie remained living in the family home on 15th Street in Canmore until she broke her hip at the age of 93 years. After her hip replacement, she moved into St. Martha's Place in Banff on

April 17, 2007, where she resided until her passing on March 19, 2014.

She will be sadly missed by her only son, Innocent John William Thomas, his wife Lorelei and son Keenan as well as several

nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service was held on Monday, March 24, 2013 in Our Lady of the Rockies Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canmore. She wias then laid to rest in the Canmore Cemetery with her beloved husband John.
