Connie Payne, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, in Canmore at the age of 71 years. She had been battling cancer for the last 8 months.
Connie grew up in Calgary and spent the majority of her life there.
She was married in 1973 to Warren Payne with whom she went to
high school. Together, they had two sons Michael and Christopher.
Throughout her working life, Connie had a variety of different jobs that kept her busy. Connie spent most mornings teaching aquasize at swimming pools around Calgary. In the evenings she shared her love of fashion and textiles teaching sewing and beading classes for the Calgary Board of Education. This eventually led her into self-confidence and image consulting for women in need, supporting and preparing them to enter the workforce, often after leaving abusive relationships.
Connie and Warren moved to Canmore about 4 years ago and instantly felt at home. Soon after, Connie found herself heavily active in the Canmore Quilting Guild where she found an amazing group of new friends and endless creative inspiration.
Connie was best known for her creativity and never sitting still.
There were always at least 10 projects on the go. Whether it was a major home renovation, home decorating, cooking, sewing, crafting, art quilting . . . there was always something to work on. Those who knew Connie appreciated her vivacious energy, her selflessness, her sense of humour and her immense love she had for everyone she cared about.
She was always planning and organizing ways to get the whole family
together to create memories. Connie will be missed by her brother Courtney and his wife Susan as well as her nephews; Lance (Jenice), Blake (Cory-Jo) and Shane Ward.
The family would like to thank everyone who had helped
Connie in her cancer battle.
Connie has been cremated and a celebration of life will be held
at a date to be announced in the near future.
