Churyl Caldwell

d. January 16, 2014

Churyl Caldwell, aged 94 of Banff, Alberta died of old age on Thursday, January 16, 2014. She was born in Trail, British Columbia on

November 7, 1919 to Luigi Nizzero and Antonia Carturan.

On July 15, 1937, she married Roi Caldwell, who predeceased her

after 60 years of marriage.

Churyl was a wonderful mother, a devoted wife, and a loyal friend. For 50 years, she rose early to make pancakes for her husband before he went to work. Her home-made bread and home-cooked meals were legendary in the family. She loved gardening and she spent thirteen of her happiest years in Mara, BC where she and her husband built a house and nurtured beautiful gardens. She loved flowers and her favourite flowers were carnations. In summer, when she wasn't gardening or preserving the food she grew, she loved to swim in Mara Lake. In winter, she made quilts and afghans, most of which she gave as gifts to family and friends. Churyl loved to travel, and was able to travel extensively with her daughter and son-in-law, including a trip to Italy where her family originated.

Churyl was a joy to be around. Her sense of humour and sweet smile made everyone happy to spend time with her. Her "Yoohoo" could be heard from afar anytime she spotted someone she knew. Although she had grandchildren and great-grandchildren of her own, many more adopted her as their special grandmother. In 2007, She moved to Banff to be close to her daughter and even in her short time here, she touched many lives. She was a special person who befriended many people in Cascade House where she lived and in the broader community of Banff. She loved music and enjoyed singing in the

Banff Senior's choir.

Churyl is survived by sons Dusty Caldwell, Lyle Keith Adams, daughter Michale Lang, ten grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Another son Victor Noel Adams, died in 2013.

A Celebration of Churyl's Life was held on Sunday, January 26, 2014

at the Banff Senior's Centre.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Banff Mineral Springs Hospital, where she was compassionately and lovingly cared for in the last years of her life by Dr. Lynne Marriott and an outstanding team of nurses.
