Christine Schatzmann

d. September 4, 2015

Christine died peacefully from pancreatic cancer in her home town of Canmore AB, in the early afternoon of Friday, September 4th, 2015.

In her final days, Christine reflected gratefully on the incredible, adventurous and joyful life she shared with her best friend and husband, Beat Schatzmann. In addition to being survived by her husband

of 43 years, she will be deeply missed by her children Markus (Jenny), Chris (Ella-Jean) & Tanya (Danny) and her grandchildren Emilie, Josef, Lucas, Cody, Nelly, North & Eamon.

Christine was born to Esther & Ernest Gilgen in Bern, Switzerland. The second youngest of eight children, Christine often spoke fondly of her childhood and especially of the loving home she shared with her siblings Ruedi, Peter, Esther, Lis, Hanni, Vreni and Bernhard.

Christine and Beat met in Switzerland during one of Beat's trips home in early 1972. Three weeks later they were engaged. Christine courageously followed her heart and moved to Canada to be with Beat and they married on September 25, 1972 in Norwood, Ontario.

Christine was a Pharmacy Assistant who chose to leave her profession when they started a family. Christine and Beat raised their children on various race horse farms in Ontario & Alberta, where Beat was farm manager, until 1992, when they once again followed their hearts and moved to the mountains of Canmore - a dream come true for Christine - who's love for mountain living was known to all who knew her. She was an avid hiker and skier who's adventurous spirit inspired many.

Christine became a Home Health Care Aide shortly after moving to Canmore and compassionately served the community for 21 years. She was a trusted and loyal colleague and friend to those fortunate enough to cross her path.

We love you Mom, Chrigi, Mueti, Schatzi, Christine.

You will forever live in our hearts.

The family wishes to thank Dr Gerry Duggleby, the Home Care team who knew and loved her and the many caring staff of the Canmore General Hospital for all the things you did to help ease her journey's end.

A celebration of life was held on Saturday September 12, 2015

at the Canmore Golf & Curling Club.
