It is with deep regret and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Christopher Eric Planche of Canmore, AB at a youthful
70 years of age.
He passed peacefully early Saturday morning, May 14 at the Canmore Hospital after a fierce battle with lung cancer helped along by Covid.
Chris was born in Shawinigan Falls, Quebec. Lived in Beaurepaire, Cornwall, Grimsby, Town of Mount Royal, Dalhousie, NB, Shawinigan, Cornwall before returning to Montreal. He attended and Graduated from Bishop's University.
After University, Chris joined the corporate world of IBM and after a brief 3 months decided he wanted a more independent life. That journey led him west to BC and then to his beloved Canmore where he spent the last 43 years.
He flourished in Canmore.
Chris became a respected trades person and founded Summit Construction a business that provided hundreds of local clients the services they needed. In the process he gained the respect of many within the Canmore Community for his skills at solving their problems
Chris led a richly rewarding personal life. He led his life his way. Fiercely independent and very private on one hand, but a very caring individual who gave back to the community through organizations such as the Lion's Club. He hosted a local cable interview program that gave insight into the business and political leaders. That prompted him to run for local council.
Chris loved to curl and loved the outdoors: skiing, camping and canoeing. He was a great canoe partner to his closest and long time friend Paul Hatfield. Chris was not quite a man of the arts, but, he certainly gave his all acting on stage with the Pine Tree Players.
Chris was a lifelong bachelor and is survived by his brothers Greg Planche of Newmarket and Ron Planche of Niagara Falls.
Chris will be missed by his A&W breakfast club buddies and especially by his long time adopted Canmore family of Paul and Sharon Hatfield, who throughout Chris's adult life provided him with loving care and support right up to the end… and beyond!
The Hatfield and the Planche family wish to thank the care provided
by Dr. Kendra Barrick, the acute care staff, all the support team
at the Canmore Hospital and the superb team at the Foothill's Hospital in Calgary.
Friends and acquaintances were invited to join with Paul, Sharon,
Ron and Greg in a celebration of Chris's life Friday, May 20 at the Canmore Legion.
Services provided by Russ Reynolds and Bow River Funeral Service.
