It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carol Morrison. After a hard-fought battle with cancer, Carol passed away peacefully on Friday November 22nd at the Mineral Springs Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Marion Carol Morrison was born on June 22nd, 1948 in Calgary, Alberta. She grew up as one of four children and was adored by her mother, father and siblings. Her eldest sister Judy would often say that people in high school thought they were best friends, not sisters, because they were so close.
After graduating from high school, she pursued a fulfilling career in nursing, which lasted almost 40 years. During her career, her principled and collegial approach earned her the opportunity to lead the emergency department at the Mineral Springs Hospital in Banff, Alberta, where she forged many deep and productive relationships that have endured since her retirement fourteen years ago. When she was admitted into the Mineral Springs with cancer, she was treated like royalty by the nursing staff, a testament to how loved she was by her colleagues and the positive impact she had on the hospital over her career.
She had many varied interests. She loved the outdoors where she could golf, hike and cross-country ski with friends and family. It was rare that she would not handily beat her husband David in a round of golf and whenever her kids lacked motivation to go outside and get some exercise, she would say "you'll never regret getting out". She was active in her community, raising money and lending a hand wherever and whenever she could make a difference. Most of all, she loved to be social. People from all walks of life were drawn to her because of her thoughtful nature and genuine interest in them.
In 1979, she moved to Banff and married her husband, David,
of 39 years. She and David were delighted to celebrate their anniversary just days before her passing. She always said that her greatest accomplishment was raising a family. What started as one, has grown to a family of 12, including four kids, three spouses of her children and three grand-children. She will be remembered by all who loved her as a caring and collaborative person who could bring people together. She simply made everything better.
A service celebrating a life well-lived was held on Thursday,
