Carol Davison

Surrounded by the love of her family and friends, Carol Louise Davison, (née Emery), passed peacefully at the Canmore Hospital after a courageous battle with ALS for the past three years. She is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Rick Davison, her loving children Trevor (Cory) Davison, and Jeanette Davison, and her cherished grandchildren Shauna and Kent. Carol is also survived by her mother Helen Emery and her brother Eric (Laura) Emery, along with his children Vanessa (Shawn) and Geoffrey (Chrissy); her sister-in-law Peggy Davison and her children, Catherine and Jamie (Kim).

Carol was predeceased by her brother-in-law Jack Davison, and her father Austin Emery.

Carol was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on August 27, 1948.

She graduated from Dalhousie University with a combined Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education degree. Upon graduation, Carol took a Learning Disability Specialist program. As a teacher, she specialized in helping children with learning disabilities. Carol started her teaching career in Dartmouth, at Brookhouse School where she taught

Grade 5 (1970 and 1971). She loved the first day of school and she loved teaching.

Carol and Rick were married August 23, 1971, and they came west

in 1972, when they moved to Edmonton. A great place to raise a family, Carol and Rick made Edmonton their home for thirty years. Carol taught in Edmonton in both the public and separate school systems, and she volunteered extensively. Amongst her many volunteer commitments were volunteering for the Junior League of Edmonton, the Kids Help Phone, the Kids on the Block Educational Puppets, and mentoring for Roots of Empathy.

In 2001, Carol and Rick moved to Calgary, before retiring to Canmore in 2008. In Calgary, Carol was a member of the Trail Mix Hiking Group and the Up2Something Choir, two activities that she enjoyed immensely. In Canmore, Carol was a member of her Canmore Hiker's Group, and the Valley Winds Choir. Other volunteer commitments included volunteering for the Mountain Grannies (Stephen Lewis Foundation), the Alberta Winter Games, and Elevation Place. One of her proudest accomplishments was that she helped to start the Roots of Empathy program in the Canmore school system.

In their retirement years, Carol and Rick were fortunate to travel to many places in the world including countries in Asia, Europe, and

Latin America. Carol thoroughly enjoyed traveling, exploring new countries and learning about new cultures.

Carol was happiest when she was on the move. She loved hiking and kayaking; and when she hiked, she could always be found at the back of the pack taking photographs of wildflowers. Carol loved spending time with family and friends. She dearly loved her grandchildren, Shauna and Kent, and they had many wonderful adventures together.

Carol was a force of nature. For such a petite person, she

had a remarkably large presence and an indomitable spirit.

A never-ceasing bundle of energy, her heart was always open,

she could see the positive in everything, and she loved life.

She taught us all how to hug!

A celebration of Carol's life took place on Sunday, August 27th

at the Creekside Hall, Canmore Seniors Centre.
