Brunhilde (Bruni) Budenz, loving wife of Gerhard and wonderful mother of Barbara, passed away with both of them at her side at Foothills Hospital on Sunday, March 24th after a three-year battle with cancer. She will be dearly missed by both, and is also survived by
relatives in Germany.
After having visited Canada nearly every year since the 1970's, Bruni moved to Canada from Germany with her husband and daughter in 1987. The family lived in Edmonton for three years prior to moving to Canmore. Most locals and family friends have come to know her through the home building industry, where she, along with her husband Gerhard, worked on numerous residential and commercial projects around town. Later the family ran and operated Bear Country Lodge, then enjoyed building some more in Invermere.
Bruni was always busy running around, focused on one task or another, and inbetween it all baked countless delicious cakes. She always loved sitting in the nook at home overlooking the valley, or heading to the cabin or Invermere. More recently travels took her to numerous western states, with favourites being New Mexico and Arizona. Over Christmas the family enjoyed a special trip together to Carefree, enjoying the warm weather and celebrating Christmas Eve around a campfire.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and caregivers at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Foothills Hospital, and the Canmore Hospital for helping Bruni through many difficult times, making her comfortable, and in the end, being at peace.
A private family service will take place in the coming days.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bruni's memory to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre (albertacancer.ca) or Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation (Canmore General Hospital) 1100 Hospital Place, Canmore T1W 1N2
