Bonar Hunter

Bonar Lloyd Hunter passed on in the early morning of April 25, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. His family was at his side throughout

this ordeal.

He was predeceased by his parents Tom ( 1993 ) and Bettie (2005 )

and is survived by his son Sean, and his brother David.

Bonar was born in Montreal, and raised in the small town of Hudson, Quebec. He attended Hudson High School where he excelled in sports including football, basketball and track and field. Upon graduation from high school, Bonar attended the University of New Brunswick where he continued his love of sport by playing for the UNB Red Bombers football team until a knee injury ended his football career. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972

Following graduation, he proceeded like many others to explore this vast country and the opportunities it offered young people. He initially travelled to Vancouver where he found work with Johnston Terminals. He moved back to Hudson for a period of time and worked in the food and beverage, and construction sectors. In 1975 he moved to Banff where he found work in the ski industry including Mountain Magic and the Ski Stop. He moved to Calgary for a short time working for the Alberta Forest Service, before being drawn back to the mountains. In the early 1980's he found work with Parks Canada, Visitor Services and spent a number of seasons working at Protection Mountain and Johnson Canyon campgrounds. He always commented that this was one of the most enjoyable jobs he ever undertook. When the Town of Banff was Incorporated in 1990, he was hired to create the Municipal Enforcement department and spent close to 20 years working for the town before retiring in 2010.

His retirement years were spent on the Banff Springs Golf course

where his claim to fame was shooting his age at 71 years. He also hiked, ski-toured, and cycled many of the trails in Banff National Park and knew the park well. He loved his dogs (4) and spent many hours dog-walking the trails close to town.

The family would like to express our most sincere thanks to the doctors , nurses and other staff at the Mineral Springs Hospital, and the Banff Community Health Centre for their kindness and compassion shown to us during this difficult time.
