Glen Robert (Bob) Baillie passed away in Canmore at the
age of 58years. Bob is survived by his father, Glen Baillie, three brothers, Blue, Norm, and Larry, his five children, Jared, Jason, Shauna, Emily, and Ross, and his two grandchildren, Sunny, and Kai.
Bob was born and raised in Scarborough, Ontario with his three brothers, William (Blue), Larry and Norman. Growing up they were very active outdoors including camping and skiing. After high school he moved out west to be a ski bum. After a couple years in Banff he headed north to Whitehorse where he met his first wife, Cindy. Soon after, they welcomed their first son Jared. But the call of the Canadian Rockies resulted in a move to Canmore where Bob began to set his roots in town. Jason was born shortly after his return to the mountains, followed by his first daughter Shauna. When Bob married Fran in 1993, Emily then Ross shortly followed.
Bob was an entrepreneur with a passion for skiing, and those two things led him to many different business ventures throughout his life. At the age of 21, he opened Mumbo's Restaurant in Whitehorse. With his parents and brother he ran the Spoke n' Edge in Banff, Sunshine, and Canmore. He then started Canada Ski, where he spent many years remanufacturing skis and where the Snow Savage was born. In years that followed, Bob started Target Painting, Canmore Property Management, Bow Valley Painting and Decorating, and was an owner of the Bear Country Lodge. Each business venture brought new friends, all resulting in numerous lifelong friendships. Bob was a town councilor for the Town of Canmore and a member of the Rotary Club. He volunteered for numerous organizations in the valley including Sunshine Ski Club and Banff Alpine Racers. Bob will be fondly remembered for his enthusiastic spirit, contagious laugh, and as the best ski buddy a person could ask for.
A Memorial Service was held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20 at the Canmore Collegiate High School theatre followed by a celebration of life at the Canmore Golf and Curling Club at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bob's name may be made at http://e.gofund.me/dbah7h64 to aid in the expenses of the funeral arrangements as well as a permanent memorial somewhere in the Bow Valley.
