William Charles (Bill) Wilson was born in Banff in 1928, and it was here he met and married the love of his life, Louise. Together they made their home and filled it with love and children.
As with all young me he a had a few jobs while growing up, including working with Parks Canada on the "Mosquito Gang", a job he used to laugh about. Before long he started his own construction company and spent the next 35 years renovating and building in the Bow Valley. He was actively involved in sports and in the community he loved.
Hockey was always Bill's game and as a young man he played Junior A as a goaltender for the Lethbridge Native Sons and the Medicine Hat Tigers. Affectionately known as "Leaky", Bill continued to play the sport he loved, finally hanging up the pads in the seventies.
In late 1989, after 60 years in his beloved Rockies, bill retired with Louise and his bottle collection to Sidney, BC. Bill was an accomplished wood carver and painter and his art will endure through his family and friends.
He was a quiet and dignified man, who never gave up or sought special treatment. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital in Sydney after a prolonged fight with cancer.
Bill is survived by Louise, his sons and daughters; Danny, Tracy, Fione, Mathew, Warren and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Bill's life was held Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the Fenlands Recreation Centre in Banff.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made, in his memory, to the Canadian Cancer Society.
