(Bill, Billy, Kazi, Kaz, Zimmer)
It is with heartfelt sadness that we say goodbye to our husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, son and friend, Bill Kazimer who passed away peacefully on September 4, 2011 at the age of 69 years at the Canmore Hospital after a very long and courageous battle with cancer.
Left to mourn his passing, but celebrate his life, are his wife Gail; his two daughters Danielle (Eric Rajah) and Stacy; his three granddaughters Madison,Tyra and Shane; dear friend and father of Madison, Dj Howatt; Bill's mother Annie; his sister Fran (Richard Eklof); his nephews Darren and Michael (Chris) and their family, and his many cherished friends. Bill was predeceased by his father, William Kazimer Sr.
Because Bill was born in Canmore and lived his entire life in the Bow Valley, he was something of a rarity, a true local. As a young man, he was an avid sportsman and he played slow-pitch during the summer and hockey every winter. Bill worked for Trans Alta Utilities at the Seebe Plant for 46 years and retirement didn't slow him down; it just freed up more time to spend with the Canmore Eagles hockey team, one of the biggest loves of his life. It was only the failing of his health that forced Bill to leave the team after 14 years. There's no doubt he was a huge fan of the sport, but it was the camaraderie with the players and coaching staff that really kept him coming back every season.
Bill was extremely proud of his family and he was particularly fond of spending time with his granddaughters. He was truly a young man trapped in an old man's body, and never let any opportunity to spend quality time with friends or family pass him by.
A memorial service was held on Friday September 9, 2011 at Our Lady of the Rockies Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canmore. Bill's family hosted a reception to celebrate his life at the Canmore Legion immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to remember Bill may make donations, in his memory, to the Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation, Acute Care, Canmore Hospital, 1100 Hospital Place, Canmore AB T1W 1N2.
Bill has now been laid to rest in the Canmore Cemetery with his parents, Annie and William (Mousie)
