Betty Schultz

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Schultz in Calgary. She was born in Edmonton to Alice (Elfriede) and Sam Schultz, and lived her early childhood in the small towns of Edberg and Alix. When the family moved to Lethbridge she participated in swimming, music lessons, and summer camps in the mountains,

all of which were early starts to lifelong passions. In 1968 the family relocated to Banff, which remained "home" to her regardless of where else she lived.

Betty obtained a Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Calgary and worked first as an RN in cardiology and nephrology, then later as a liaison for a pharmaceutical company conducting clinical trials. After she left employment in the health care field, her inquisitive mind, commitment and attention to detail made her a key player in the family business and a valued member of numerous volunteer boards and committees.

To know Betty was to know her dogs, constant companions and always lovingly cared for. Unbeknownst to others, they even accompanied her on occasion to meetings and concerts.

Betty's curious and adventurous nature led to travels to all parts of the globe, many times off the beaten track. Always with cameras and binoculars in hand, she was most enthused about trips that focused on wildlife, be it polar bears, grizzlies, mountain gorillas, African big game, penguins, birds, or sea life. When she needed time and a place to recharge, she found refuge in Sedona and Maui.

Betty was a lifelong learner with a passion for reading, listening to podcasts, and attending courses/seminars. She was an ardent supporter of the arts and was thrilled when she could introduce

a family member or friend to a new experience. Her generosity

was done without fanfare; she often just offered a helping hand and found a light in everyone. She was a lover of good food and spirited humorous discussions with those at the table. There was no such thing as a quick dinner.

Betty was predeceased by her dad Sam in 2021 and is now survived by her mom Alice, her caring extended family and a wide circle of treasured friends. She will be missed by all who were privileged to know her, and will be lovingly remembered when we watch a Maui sunset, gaze at a full moon over the mountains, or munch on gummy bears.

Betty's family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the many individuals who tirelessly contributed to her care with compassion and commitment. You will always have a special place in our hearts.

In keeping with Betty's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. For those who wish to do so, memorial donations to the Palliative Care Society of the Bow Valley (www.pcsbv.ca) would be appreciated.
