With a youthful spirit and spontaneity, loving and living life to the fullest, that was our "Bette", who passed away at the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital Friday, February 12, 2010 at the age of 87 years. Bette was born in Banff, living here and working for the telephone office for many years. She was also well known for her Figure Skating competing at various levels in Banff and around the country. In 1957 she moved to Whitehorse Yukon Territories for 23 years before returning to Banff with husband Harry. Bette loved crafts, especially knitting and crocheting, crossword puzzles ( and was very good at it!) and reading. These things keeping her mind sharp her entire life. Music and Dancing were also favorite pastimes.
Bette (grand-daughter of William (Billy) McCardell, co- discoverer of the Cave and Basin in 1883, later to become Rocky Mountain National Park, then the first National Park in Canada, Banff National Park) was pre-deceased by her mother and father, Minnie and Ted Davidson , and her sister Wilda Coultis of Banff . She will be affectionately missed , and her memory cherished by her husband and soul mate of almost 52 years, Harry Carlyle, niece Terry Naffin (Albert), nephew Shane Coultis, great-nephew Shane Coultis jr. (Kim) all of Banff (daughter Julia Coultis of Regina, Sask.); Calgary residents, nephew Greg Coultis, great-nephew Daron Naffin (Ricki, children Willem and Libby); Golden, B.C. Residents Judy Coultis, great-nieces Brandi Coultis ( children Bailey & Taya), Cory Coultis (Dan) and many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
Bette was very popular with all lucky enough to know her. Even in illness, Bette portrayed a bright picture remaining upbeat with a positive attitude, showing great courage through these health struggles.
Many thanks to Bette's special friends for their support and understanding during this time. The family would also like to thank Dr. Nancy Blaney, Home Care Nurse Brenda Pelton and her team, Ambulance Services, all Banff Mineral Springs Hospital Nurses especially Lori, Heather and Patti, Food Conveyor Kelly, Mike and Paul. We do apologize for anyone we might have missed.
At Bette's request, there will be no Funeral Service.
A Celebration of her Life is being planned for the Spring
(near the end of March).
