Bernie Kraemer

Surrounded by his loving family, Bernfried "Bernie" Kraemer

passed away peacefully in his home in Canmore on Thursday,

October 16, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Bernie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Waltraut "Wally",

two daughters, Gabriele (Russ), Angela (Francis) and two sons,

Michael (Monica), Stephan (Michelle), his brother, Rolf (Christel) and sister Maria and many extended family in Canada and in Germany.

Bernie was also the proud and loving Opa to eight grandchildren; Amanda (Daniel), Brandon (Brittany), Tammy, Nicole (Gagan), Emily, Steffen, Jason and Ashley as well as four great grandchildren,

Noah, Austin, Gemma and Texas.

Bernie was born in Hochmoessingen, Germany and immigrated to Canada with his wife and infant daughter, Gabriele in 1962. He owned and operated the Lake Bonavista Bakery in Calgary before settling in Canmore in 1979 where he purchased the Rundle Mountain Motel and ran the family business until he and Wally retired in 1993.

Bernie lived life to the fullest and his smile, laughter and especially his compassionate heart will be dearly missed by many friends and family.

Funeral services for Bernie were held on Saturday, October 25, 2014

in the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Canmore.

Interment followed in the Canmore Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to remember Bernie may make a donation, in his memory to the Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation, directed to Canmore Home Care, 1100 Hospital Place, Canmore, AB T1W 1N3 or to the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 1205 - 1 Ave., Canmore AB T1W 1M5

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the Canmore Home Care staff as well as all the doctors, nurses and staff at the Canmore and Foothills Hospital who all provided such loving and professional care to Bernie over the past year.
