On November 20 2014 after a long fight with cancer, Benjamin Benito Trevino Q C passed on in Canmore, Alberta with his daughter Sarita close at hand. Predeceased in August 2013 by Jackie, his beloved wife of 63 years, his father, Benjamin C. Trevino, mother, Francisca Trevino, a brother, Richard Trevino (Virginia) and a sister, Rachel Carrales (Carlos). He leaves behind his sisters, Beatrice Trevino, Silva Hinojosa (Lucas) and brother Michael Trevino (Barbara), and son Andre Trevino [Jennifer] grandchildren Jordan and Mathew, daughter Sarita Trevino Deegan [Pat] and grandson James.
Born in Brownsville Texas he attended Magee High School where he met Jackie. After serving in the U S Marines, he attended UBC ultimately graduating from the Faculty of Law having served as the President of the Alma Mater Society. He articled and practised law at Russell and DuMoulin, now Fasken Martineau DuMoulin, for thirty seven years Ben was a well-respected lawyer who established the Labour practice at his firm and was known for his strategic and practical advice to his many management clients. For many years he represented the BC Medical Association and later the Ontario Medical Association and was made an honouray member of BC Medical Association. He served the legal profession in a variety of ways rising to the top as Treasurer of the Law Society of B C. He also served his community including as a member of the Senate and Board of Governors at UBC.
For years Ben and Jackie retreated every summer to Nimpo Lake on the Chilcotin Plateau where he pursued his passion of fly fishing. A longtime resident of West Vancouver, after retirement he and Jackie with her sisters built their dream home at Furry Creek where he pursued his passion of gardening.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, the many lawyers he mentored and the clients who benefited from his thoughtful advice. A gentleman through and through, he will be remembered for his charm, warmth and eloquence.
The family will hold a celebration of life for friends and family in the new year in Canmore. At the request of Ben, a celebration will also be held in Texas with his family and at Nimpo Lake in British Columbia.
We would like to thank the Acute Care Team at the Canmore Hospital, Dr. Sullivan and the Three Sisters Medical team, his nurse and Care manager at The Edgemont and Dr. Oyebanji for the care and compassion over the years.
