Anne Cosart (nee Rattray) went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ and her husband, Darrell, on November 17, 2012, Darrell's birthday.
At 92 she expressed gratitude for a long and full life. In case it encourages anyone out there, Anne was an ovarian cancer survivor
of 22 years.
Born in Yonkers, New York in 1920, she was the second youngest of a large blended family. They moved several times during her childhood, partly determined by the Depression. Anne went to teachers' college, working summers at Star Lake. She became a high school English teacher. Several tragic losses of family members and then also her fiance caused her to want to leave New York. Becoming an airline stewardess she moved to Los Angeles. During a promotional photo shoot for American Airlines, Anne met Captain Darrell Cosart, a recent veteran of Guadalcanal. Following a whirlwind courtship they married and settled in Oroville, California. Both taught school there and later got their masters degrees. Eventually Anne became a Speech Pathologist. She was hired to be coordinator for programs for the Physically handicapped. In 1977 she was voted by her peers as Outstanding Public Schools Educator, an extreme honour for her.
Upon retirement, she and Darrell traveled extensively to Europe, the Caribbean, and the South Pacific. They also enjoyed many summer seasons at the family cabin at Buck's Lake. In 2003, two years after Darrell's passing, Anne sold her home and moved to Canada to live near her daughter Darelann and her family.
Anne enjoyed participating in Seniors' activities. She joined the Mountain Baptist Church where she made very dear friends. An added joy were the friends she made at a local chat group.
Anne is survived by her sister Barbara DuBois of Socorro, New Mexico; her two children, Dinn (Deberah) Cosart of Reno, Nevada, Darelann (David) Perkins of Canmore; her grandchildren, Anastasia (Jeremy) Woodgate of Portland, Oregon, Julia (Damon) Robertson of Petaluma, California, Tessa Perkins and Ethan Perkins of Canmore; four great-grandchildren, Elijah, Karissa, Abigail, and Gideon Woodgate; and nieces and nephews.
We will miss you tremendously, Mom, and look forward to being reunited.
Heartfelt thanks to Drs. Constantin, DuPlessis, and Sullivan for their excellent care and compassion, and also to the nurses and aides who eased Mother's final days with patience and kindness.
