Anne Christine Cipollone (née: Hippisley), passed away in the Rocky Mountains of Canmore, sitting in the sun with her son, amongst the flowers in the long-term-care garden of the Canmore hospital.
Anne was born in England months before the advent of the second world war and after completing her teacher's training in Reading, emigrated to Canada with her best friend Julia in 1963. Settling in Toronto, Anne met and married Sam Cipollone in 1968 and had a career as a primary school teacher for youth with learning disabilities. Anne had one son, David, in 1977 and returned to the workforce in the 1980s as a medical secretary in long-term care.
Anne enjoyed the arts and the outdoors. Ballet, opera, parks and beautiful gardens were her favorite things, second only to an afternoon listening to the CBC or reading a good book. Anne had a tight network of friends in Toronto. She traveled her city by foot and subway befriending many a stranger or newcomer along the way.
Anne made lifelong connections all over her city. In 2017,
she moved to Canmore to be close to her son and his family
(wife, Erin, and grandsons Elliot and Simon) as her health failed.
We give thanks to the care givers of Toronto who sustained Mom before her move. Special thanks to the unbelievable friendship of Elzbieta Szeszula and Zophia Zmigrodzka. In addition, we give thanks to the care givers of the Bow Valley for their exceptional compassion, dedication and skill. Thank you to The Bow River Seniors' Lodge, Canmore Home Care, Dr. Kendra Barrick, Dr. Mette Hoegh-Petersen, Banff St. Martha's Place, Canmore General Hospital and it's dedicated nursing staff and volunteers, Katherine McAllister, Heather Price and the team at Golden Eagle View long-term care at the Canmore Hospital. From administration to nursing, personal care services to recreational therapy, Golden Eagle View is a gift to this community. What happens there is not simply medical care, it is the curation of life and a time in life. The staff there are talented beyond compare.
